scope of work

Under the direct supervision of the Common Services Unit Head, the successful candidate is responsible for the provision of GIS and mapping support to iMMA Project.

The project objective is to support capacity building and information management activities for Syria NGOs in response to the Syrian crisis. The project will deliver regular trainings, secondments, and common services for humanitarian actors.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

RESPONSIBILITIES

GENERAL

Ø Produce and update high quality map products required for decision making including for partners.

Ø Provide Geographic Information System (GIS) tools, map products and geographic data management support.

Ø Create, process, and analyse raster and vector geodata, including executing geoprocessing functions using Arc Toolbox, Model Builder and/or Python

Ø Develop and maintain a spatial baseline, GIS standard operating procedures, and operational datasets in accordance with relevant standards and guidance.

Ø Participate in technical coordination/ working groups and support of all GIS activities as provision of support to partners.

Ø Liaise with partners in updating spatial layers that are required in developing GIS products including with national counterparts.

Ø Promote exchange and use of geographic information data and products in various reports and in both internal and external products.

Ø Support in preparation of presentations and reports related to GIS activities to enhance in decision making.

Ø Collection, compilation and integration of external geographic data as required for analysis and reporting needs.

Ø Prepare online maps for enhanced data review and analysis as well as reporting of implemented activities.

Ø Provide technical guidance to managers on GIS related activities and including internal and external products.

Ø Develop geographic data management systems, tools and processes required in programme implementation and ensure all efforts are sustainable.

Ø With support from the Information management team, ensure all GIS tools are interfaced with all relevant databases and tools.

Ø Provide capacity development and training on GIS, spatial data processing and spatial data analysis techniques as required.

Ø Maintain an inventory of software and hardware required for various GIS tasks.

Ø Perform any other duties as required.

REPRESENTATION

Ø Represent iMMAP Turkey with national and international partners, donors, media, and participate in local community activities as appropriate.

Ø Follow iMMAP's branding regulations required for marking, or branding, of all iMMAP products and correspondence.

SECURITY

Ø Follow security protocols as laid down by the iMMAP Global Security Advisor.

ORGANIZATIONAL LEARNING

Ø As part of the iMMAP commitment to organizational learning, and in support of the understanding that learning organizations are more effective, efficient and relevant to the communities they serve, it is expected that the IMO will commit 5% of their time to learning activities that benefit iMMAP as well as individual professional development.

ACCOUNTABILITY TO BENEFICIARIES

Ø iMMAP team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to beneficiaries of iMMAP programs, and to international standards guiding relief and development work, while actively engaging beneficiary communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of field projects.

Ø Any other duties as required.

Qualifications

Ø 5 years’ experience in the field of GIS activities, preferably supporting humanitarian information management.

Ø A Bachelor degree at minimum, Masters preferred, and experience in an equivalent field for the position you apply for;

Ø Troubleshooting skills, knowledge of open-source and proprietary technical mapping applications like ArcMap, ArcCatalog, GIS or ESRI extensions, and/or QGIS. Technical proficiency in other applications such as the following would be an asset: Leaflet.js, CartoDB, Mapbox, Python, CSS, HTML, Javascript, D3, Tableau Git, Qlik, Survey Monkey, ERDAS IMAGINE, ENVI

Ø Demonstrable skills in use of GIS mapping tools such as ArcGIS,

Ø Computer skills including the use of complex databases and spreadsheets is an added advantage;
